Grzybek (200-202 m)

The hill "Grzybek" ("Small Muschroom") with a height of 200-202 m above sea level begins the Trzebnickie Hills, commonly known as "Kocie Góry" ("Cat Mountains"). It is one of the two peaks of the massif dividing Oborniki Śląskie into two parts.

The hills were formed as part of the terminal moraine of the last glacier that stopped here. The next hills, apart from volcanic Ślęża, start until the Bardzkie and Sowie Mountains ("Owl Mountains").

From the mid-nineteenth century, the inhabitants of Wrocław came here en masse, visiting the indoor swimming pool/bathroom/pillhouse of ferrous water called in German "Bad", which was located at ul. Parkowa. Thanks to the efforts of the then administrator, Oborniki Śląskie gained the nickname Zdrój (German: "Bad Obernigk"). The buildings were later demolished, but in order not to lose the nickname "Bad", the local authorities built an outdoor swimming pool, which was rebuilt after the war into a modern outdoor swimming pool.
This hill was a popular destination for health trips and a place for winter fun. Currently, it has been overgrown with forest and has been somewhat forgotten by the locals, who sometimes mistakenly call "Grzybek" the Holtei Peak as a meeting place - because here gazebos were built and from which there is a beautiful panorama of Wrocław and the Sudetes. [Even employees of the City Council and Commune left a stamp "Grzybek" from the "Włóczykij Trail" - just by the top of Holtei's Hill nor Grzybek - for collecting all the stamps in book you'll get free "Włóczykij" badge].

Maybe the Grzybek peak is not the highest point in the area, the view is now obscured by trees, but we encourage you to take a walk and climb this hill on foot or by bike. In winter bring your sleds. There's a lot of MTB and running trails like znajdzsiewlesie.pl (external site) and red coloured archeological trail from Oborniki Śl. (Railway Station) to Orzeszków route and also nearby green trail route called "Route to Grzybek" (link to external service).

Take binoculars with you if planning to visit Peak of Holtei's Hill to see Sudety panorama. When there's snow - take sleds.

P.S. Holtei's Hill got its name from a local resident, Karl von Holtei, who wrote a lot about Poland and Poles who also lived in these areas.
