Opis
Symmetric encryption methods use the same key for encryption and decryption. In historical procedures, two encryption classes can be distinguished. In the first case, as with the Caesar encryption used in the example, the letters of the plain text are replaced by other letters. With the Latin word substituere (German: "replace") they are called substitution procedures. In contrast, in the second encryption class, called transposition (cryptography), each letter is as it is, but not where it is, its place in the text is changed, the individual letters of the text ("Reverse") of a text, for example, the secret text "SINMIEHEG" is created from the plaintext "secret." This is a very simple form of transposing encryption.
