Właściwa nazwa tej instalacji artystycznej to Helios.

Powstała z okazji 500 rocznicy urodzin Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu.

Pomnik odsłonięto 15 lutego 1973 roku z okazji Roku Kopernikańskiego, a zaprojektował go rzeźbiarz Józef Kopczyński.
