Hronov is a small town with a little over 6500 residents situated on a wide Broumov Upland, on the river Metuje, at the altitude of 360 m. The first written record about the settlement comes from 1359, but historical accounts justify the theory that it was probably established a century before by Hron, the lord of Náchod castle, who in mid-13th century started colonizing the uninhabited parts of his domain.
In the park, arranged in the former orchard of the Jirásek family, there are two mineral springs (Regnerka and Hronovka), with iron-rich alkaline water. In the past they were used for medicinal purposes by local people. There were even a few baths and a stove for heating the water standing nearby. The place has never become an official spa, although the waters were officially recognized as medicinal. The tasty waters help treat diseases like gallstones, early phases of artherosclerosis, blood diseases, as well as states of
physical exhaustion.
