About the Southern Park:
First plans of the Sopot’s Southern Park were sketched by Jan Jerzy Haffner. Park was established in the second decade of 19th century. More than 2 hectares park has been changing its for over years. That’s why during renovation works, city decided to base on the interwar period, which has the best photographic documentation.
Park renovation brings it back to 1924. Almost everything in park has been changed, only the main alleys remained. Even roses have their reason – such flowers dominated in Sopot in the interwar period. Paths and alleys have new pavements, also inhalation mushrooms have new outlook. There are new stylish benches and litter bins. Even lamps have got historical shape. A beautiful barometer, 2,5 meters high, with a clock, has ben also installed in the park. Its design has been taken from a postcard from 1904.
Novelty is a fountain, which was set between rheumatologic hospital and the church of the Evangelical-Augsburg. It has two different streams of water, and is illuminated at night.
